Privacy Policy — Kimp
Effective date: 2026-02-11
Kimp (“the App”) helps you discover artworks and remember what you learned using review features. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App uses, what is stored on your device, what is sent over the network, and your choices and rights.
If you have questions or privacy requests, contact: support@kimp.app.
1) Who we are (controller/contact)
Email: support@kimp.app
Website: kimp.app
2) Privacy at a glance (plain language)
- No account required. Kimp does not ask you to create an account.
- Most learning data stays on your device. Your streak, review deck, and knowledge graph are stored locally.
- We fetch artwork content from our backend (metadata + images). Standard server logs may be generated (for example IP address and timestamps).
-
Usage analytics are collected by default. The App sends daily usage totals linked to a random
in-app identifier (
anon_id). This is not your Apple ID and not an advertising identifier, but it is a persistent identifier. - No ads, no cross-app tracking. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs and we do not access the advertising identifier (IDFA).
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Apple processes payments; the App only checks entitlement state via StoreKit to unlock Kimp+.
3) Data Kimp stores on your device (on-device data)
Kimp stores data locally on your device (for example in Application Support files, caches, and UserDefaults). This is required for core functionality.
Learning and progress data
- Daily activity and streak data (for example whether you practiced today, streak count, activity calendar).
- Review deck / spaced repetition state (due cards, scheduling intervals, and learned item IDs).
- Knowledge graph state (learned/seen nodes, graph layout caches, viewport/position data).
- Daily selection caches (which artwork was selected for a given day) and recent selection history (to avoid repeats).
- Free-plan quota tracking (for example a rolling 30-day count of newly learned artworks).
Preferences and settings
- UI settings (filters, graph controls, display preferences).
- Onboarding choices (for example goal selection).
Notifications
- If you enable reminders, Kimp stores local scheduling metadata (reminder time, permission status) to manage reminders.
- Kimp uses local notifications delivered by iOS. Kimp does not use remote push notifications in the current version.
Widget data (App Group shared container)
If you enable the widget, the App writes a small “today artwork snapshot” (for example title/artist/movement and an image reference) into an App Group shared container so the widget can render it.
4) Data sent over the network
Kimp uses HTTPS network requests for: (1) fetching the daily artwork content, and (2) sending usage analytics.
4.1 Artwork content (read-only)
- Artwork metadata (for example title, artist, dates, movement tags, descriptions).
- Artwork images (for example thumbnails and medium sizes).
4.2 Usage analytics (collected by default)
Kimp sends a daily summary record to our backend that contains usage totals and a random identifier generated in the App (anon_id, a UUID).
Typical fields include (examples):
- Identity: day, anon_id, install_day, schema_version
- Onboarding: onboarding_completed, goal, user_level
- Engagement: app_opens, learned_count, review_sessions, reviewed_count, review_seconds
- Outcomes: remembered_count, forgotten_count, review_due_open
- State snapshots: notif_enabled, notif_permission, is_premium, premium_product_id
- Monetization signal: paywall_opens
- Context: platform, app_version
5) Third parties and processors
5.1 Hosting and backend
Kimp uses Supabase to host the API and storage used to deliver artwork content and receive analytics records. Our Supabase project is hosted in EU-West.
5.2 Apple
If you subscribe to Kimp+, Apple processes payments. The App checks subscription entitlements via StoreKit.
6) Subscriptions (Kimp+)
Kimp+ is an auto-renewable subscription handled by Apple.
Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
You can manage or cancel in iOS Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
Subscription options offered may include: Monthly, 3-Month, and Yearly.
7) Cookies and tracking
Kimp does not use third-party advertising SDKs and does not access the advertising identifier (IDFA). Kimp does not use cross-app tracking.
8) Legal bases (EU/EEA)
Depending on your jurisdiction, processing may be based on:
- Performance of a contract (providing the service)
- Legitimate interests (product improvement)
- Consent (where applicable)
9) Data retention
On-device learning data persists until you reset or uninstall the App.
Analytics records may be retained for operational and product improvement purposes.
10) Security
We use reasonable measures to protect data in transit and at rest, but no method is 100% secure.
11) Your choices
- You can reset your on-device learning data in Settings (Start over).
- You can disable notifications in Settings/iOS settings.
- For privacy requests, contact support@kimp.app.
12) Access, deletion, and rights
Depending on where you live (including the EU), you may have rights such as access, deletion, correction, and objection. To exercise these rights, contact support@kimp.app.
If you want us to stop associating new analytics records with your current anon_id, contact
support@kimp.app. Note: we may need information from you to locate the relevant record, and
we may not be able to identify it without cooperation from you (because we do not collect names/emails in
analytics).
13) International transfers
Our infrastructure may process data in the EU/EEA (EU-West) and may involve standard internet routing.
14) Children
Kimp is a general-audience educational app and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us via support messages, contact support@kimp.app.
15) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. If changes are material, we will update the effective date and make the updated policy available in-app and/or on our website.
16) Contact for privacy requests
